Biography

Professor Colin Riordan has been President and Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff University since September 2012. Previously he was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Essex, having been appointed in October 2007. He moved to Essex from Newcastle University, where he had been Pro Vice-Chancellor and Provost of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences since August 2005 and Professor of German since 1998.

Colin serves on a number of boards including as Vice-President and board member of Universities UK; Board member of the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education; Trustee, the Edge Foundation, Member of UCAS board of trustees, Member, International Policy Network, Universities UK; Member of the International Education Council, sponsored by the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills; Commissioner, US-UK Fulbright Commission and Member, Higher Education Funding and Student Finance Arrangements in Wales Review Panel.
